This year, the World Book Day coincides with the invitation for our director, Anna-Sophie Springer to give her new performative lecture “These endless—and endlessly necessary—fantasies of the library” a second time. Today it is part of the AStA’s Choice lecture series “How can we encounter things that have been forgotten” at HBK Braunschweig, where she is currently a professor in Transformation Design.
As described in a previous post, the lecture revisits and reanimates Anna-Sophie's visual essay “Reading Rooms Reading Machines” (intercalations 1: Fantasies of the Library), ten years after its initial publication. Through a blend of historical vignettes, speculative fragments, and reflections on digital and decolonial ecologies, the library emerges not only as a site of memory, resistance, and transformation—but also as a polyphonic resonant space for thinking otherwise.
