We’re pleased to share that The Word for World is Still Forest, the fourth volume in our intercalations: paginated exhibitions series (edited by Anna-Sophie Springer and Etienne Turpin, and co-published in 2017 by K. Verlag and Haus der Kulturen der Welt), has been featured on Landezine.
The publication opens with a series of poetic protest signs composed from scanned pages of Ursula K. Le Guin’s 1972 novella The Word for World is Forest, conceptually developed as part of the book’s editorial framework and point of departure. These visual interventions set the tone for an approach that interweaves forest imaginaries, botanical knowledge, and anti-colonial critique.
From there, The Word for World is Still Forest unfolds as a critical and poetic exploration of the forest as a living epistemic archive—drawing together botanical knowledge, forest imaginaries, and territorial entanglements through a rich constellation of texts, artworks, and historical documents.
As Landezine notes:
“The publication seeks to reflect critically on current planetary conditions and the legacies of colonial and capitalist forestry—proposing intercalation itself as a method for entangled knowledge practices.”
We’re grateful for Landezine’s thoughtful attention to editorial practices at the intersection of design, ecology, and critical research.
